Kia Carnival Hybrid SX Prestige

I enjoy driving the new Kia Carnival MPV, the new modernized Kia’s version of what we knew as a minivan, but it feels and looks like a luxury SUV.
Kia designed the new MPV, based on what we know as a minivan, but with an SUV-like exterior that lets drivers and passengers enjoy the best of both worlds: a minivan and an SUV. The key element here is to have all the cargo space and interior space of a typical minivan, but with a new, modern look similar to that of a trendy SUV.
The new Kia Carnival MPV offers best-in-class passenger space, available side-flex seating, and very comfortable VIP lounge seats that make you feel like you are riding inside a private airplane.
As with previous minivans, the Carnival MPV offers a very large cargo area, with 40.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, and much more if you fold the seats.
The new Hybrid Carnival delivers good performance, powered by a 1.6L Turbo Hybrid Powertrain engine, producing 242 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and Drive Mode Select to help you adjust the car’s driving mode to different road conditions.
Carnival MPV, a Multi-Purpose Vehicle
The new Kia Carnival a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), replaced the previous Kia Sedona Minivan.
The new Carnival car takes a position between an SUV and a family SUV. The Carnival was the first car sold in the US with the new, modernized Kia logo.
The Carnival was created by a California-based design Kia studio with focus on the American market. It has a bold and boxy look and conveys the visual language of the recent and highly successful line of reliable SUVs like the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage and Seltos.
The Carnival MPV is available for for seven or eight passengers. It provides its passengers with the highest levels of sophistication, advanced technology and flexibility.
The good news is that the Carnival gives you a lot for less money, with a lower price than most SUVs of such size and features, with a starting MSRP price close to $38K to $41K
Like a growing number of vehicles from the Korean group Hyundai and Kia, the Carnival offers an excellent array of driver-assistance features and luxury details across all trims.
The new Carnival looks similar to an SUV and a family hauler, with a bold, boxy SUV-like design, best-in-class cargo space, and good dynamic performance, which is based on a minivan interior distribution.
The Carnival is very safe, with standard Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Parking Distance Warning (reverse), High Beam Assist, and more.
Fuel Economy and Hybrid versus Non-Hybrid
The Hybrid version of the Carnival has good fuel efficiency, but not the best; there is some room for future improvement in fuel economy. The Carnival drives 32 Miles per gallon combined (city and highway), 34 MPG in the City, and 31 MPG on the Highway, while the non-hybrid Kia Carnival gets about 21 MPG combined (city and highway).
Driving the Carnival Hybrid, you can get about 10 extra miles per gallon of gas you purchase compared to the gasoline Carnival. This can mean huge annual fuel savings, especially if you drive a lot of miles.
The price difference between a Hybrid and non-Hybrid Carnival is small. When you buy the Carnival Hybrid instead of the regular Carnival, you will pay just a few thousand dollars more; however, long-term maintenance and repairs can cost much more on an out-of-warranty hybrid Carnival as its engine is more advanced and complex.
If we talk about leasing or buying to keep for short term then the Hybrid version makes more sense for me, especially considering the low price of the Kia Carnival Hybrid.
Trims and Pricing for the 2027 KiA CARNIVAL
As I am reviewing the 2026, I am writing the pricing for the 2027 Carnival that it is available in four trim levels: LX, EX, SX and SX-Prestige.
I am test-driving the SX-Prestige, the top trim model of the Carnival family. This is a great car to enjoy, with plenty of features for a great driving experience.
You can buy the new Kia Carnival starting at $41K with the base LX model, but as you add features and move up to higher trims, the price can go up to $53K with the SX Prestige model.
Kia is becoming more premium with every new car generation, and the Kia Carnival is an example of Kia’s newest automotive technology, but not at a low price.
The Carnival isn’t the most expensive car, but it sits in a segment that’s becoming more premium and selective.

Tough and Stylish exterior
The new Carnival exterior follows the recent aggressive styling of Kia’s signature SUVs. This strong and confident design language connects directly to the crisp lines found in other recent Kia debuts:
Kia’s modern “tiger nose” grille gives the face substantial width and cleverly integrates high-tech LED headlights. The Carnival looks great inside and outside; it is very attractive.
Premium Comfort from KIA CARNIVAL
Carnival is not only luxurious on the inside and out, it is also equipped for the complete comfort of drivers and passengers.
The 2nd-row center seat slides forward to provide easy access for the front-row passenger. On certain models, it can also fold into a table for use in the 2nd and 3rd rows.
The 2nd-row seats also feature a one-touch relaxation mode that offers full recline, power raised footrests, comfortable head restraints, heating and ventilation, and comfortable leather upholstery. These features are only available on the Carnival MPV SX Prestige.
The Carnival MPV features removable 2nd-row seats as well as 3rd-row seats that plunge into the floor to make room for whatever you carry.
All doors and hatches open and close with one touch. Even if your hands are busy, doors and a hatch can respond to your presence by opening as you approach and closing as you leave. The Power Smart Hatch feature is available on certain Carnival MPV trim levels.
Large Interior Space
The new MPV offers plenty of room for 7 or 8 passenger flexibility, comfort for long road trips or excursions to the local lumber shop:
The “Slide-Flex” seats for the 8-passenger versions allow multiple configurations, including a sliding center seat in the second row that, when in the most forward position, allows the front passenger easy access to the baby or child traveling in he. This seat also becomes a functional table.
Heated and ventilated second-row lounge seating available with power controls, fold-down headrests and leg extensions in an upper-tier 7-passenger configuration.
On certain Carnival trims, you have removable second-row seats, and third-row seats fold down into the floor for best-in-class cargo space.
The Kia Carnival is built with the same all-new third-generation “N3” platform as the Sorento and K5 sports car.
It has extensive use of hot stamped parts and ultra high strength steel to increase medium tensile strength and torsional stiffness resulting in better driving dynamics.
Kia engineers made it lighter, stronger, and quieter than the outgoing architecture.

Better Cargo than an SUV
The Kia Carnival provides 40.2 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row, 86.9 cubic feet behind the second row, and 145.1 cubic feet with both rear rows folded down.
The Carnival’s low liftover height makes loading and unloading heavy or bulky items easier. A manual liftgate or a power liftgate is available and standard depending on the trim model.
Cargo is one of the key advantages of driving a minivan, and even if the Carnival MPV is not a minivan, it has the cargo space advantage of traditional minivans.
When you compare a regular SUV versus an MPV or minivan, then cargo is always going to be higher in an MPV like the Carnival or in a minivan.
If Cargo and interior space are very important to you, if passenger comfort is also important to you, and you want to get more for your money, then buying a Kia Carnival can give you more value and more luxury features for your money.
